This photograph from Carlos Idun-Tawiah’s series Hero, Father, Friend turns a simple contradiction into a quietly powerful scene. Beneath a yellow sign reading “No Photography Allowed,” a father photographs his son.

The gesture is playful, but it also carries weight. In a space where looking and recording are restricted, the father’s act becomes one of care and affirmation. He is not simply breaking a rule; he is making an image of his son, claiming a moment of presence within a controlled public space.

The composition is deliberately pared back. The warning sign anchors the image, while the tiled wall creates a cool, almost abstract background. Against it, the warmth of the figures stands out: the father focused, the boy relaxed and trusting. Their connection softens the authority of the sign and gives the photograph its emotional charge.

Titled Right Wrong, the work reflects on who is allowed to look, who is allowed to be seen, and how small everyday gestures can become acts of quiet resistance. Idun-Tawiah keeps the tone light, but the image lingers as both a tender family portrait and a subtle meditation on visibility, authority, and belonging.
